The Casco Public Library, as part of its commitment to serve the community as its information center, provides access to educational, informational and recreational materials; is responsive to the changing needs of the community; and is aware of evolving technologies available to fulfill its role as a service oriented dynamic library. The library protects intellectual freedom and encourages lifelong learning. It is within this context that the Casco Public Library offers access to the Internet.

All Internet resources accessible through the Library are provided equally to all library users. Parents or guardians, not the Library or its staff, are responsible for the Internet information selected and/or accessed by their children. Parents and children are encouraged to read Child Safety on the Information Highway, produced by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and available electronically from the library's web site. Copies are also available in the library.

Access And Services

The Library has full authority to grant, refuse or revoke permission or to make conditions for access to the Internet. There are times when viewing otherwise legal materials may be inappropriate or when the behavior of those using the Internet may be inappropriate. The Library staff reserves the right to address such use of the Internet or behavior by requiring a patron to terminate his or her session.

Library staff is available to assist patrons with computer use as time permits but may not be familiar with all applications and cannot provide complete technical support.

The Library cannot guarantee successful Internet connections.

Internet access is limited to free Web-based applications or online resources purchased or licensed by the library. Only Library-owned software may be installed on library computers.

All users who release personal information over the Internet, including personal identifying information, credit card numbers, or bank account numbers, do so at their own risk.
